THE ROOT CELLAR
The Root Cellar is located in the heart of downtown Lewiston. The Root Cellar provides a wide range of engaging programs for the community. Children’s after school, Bible Club, 8 week Summer Camp, adult English Language classes, Food co-op’s, and Teen Mentoring are few of the major programs. You can be confident that you’ll find a spot and be blessed by serving your neighbors.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSES
Immigrants are a major part of the demographics in Lewiston. Many arrive knowing very little English. You can join the exciting process of helping students learn English.
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY
Children’s after-school programming and summer camps abound with exciting activities. Volunteers and children bond over Bible stories, field trips, crafts, and games. Volunteers assist in coordinating and implementing the activities.
TEEN MENTORING
The Root Cellar loves to provide opportunities for teens to learn new skills. Financial Literacy, Job Training, and Work Experience programs are available for teens to participate in. LewCrew Lawn Care is a growing Work Experience program that allows teens to learn small business and make an income. Currently, the teens maintain over 30 properties and volunteers help provide transportation and oversight.
Choice books
Choice Books provides life-enriching reading material to the New England states. Volunteers will distribute books in places like Wal-Mart and CVS. If you enjoy driving and working independently, this opportunity is for you!
HOME HELPER
Families from the local churches primarily homeschool. Busy mothers appreciate assistance from ambitious young ladies. Volunteers will help with teaching the children and other various tasks.
COMBINATION OPPORTUNITIES
While the majority of volunteers choose to serve full-time at The Root Cellar, there is the opportunity to split time between The Root Cellar and either Choice Books or Home Helper. This can provide a healthy blend of serving in relational ministry and a work environment.
